The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay Celebrates the Great Pumpkin

Experience the Beauty of Fall in Northern California

HALF MOON BAY, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/19/14 -- Located in the heart of the 'Pumpkin Capital of the World,' The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay celebrates the great gourd during the Annual Pumpkin Celebration. The fall spirit comes alive with an array of seasonal offerings from themed dishes in the Northern California resort's restaurants and pumpkin cooking classes to pumpkin infused treatments for the face and body in The Ritz-Carlton Spa.

Hotel guests are invited to enjoy the delights of this celebrated season through a variety of events, activities and offerings at the luxury resort.

Nourish
For those with a palate for pumpkin, the resort's chefs showcase locally grown pumpkin varieties from Farmer John's Pumpkin Farm in Half Moon Bay. In Navio, the resorts seafood restaurant, Chef de Cuisine Kevin Tanaka highlights the season with a smoked pumpkin ravioli with squid ink pasta. Pastry Chef Christian Brassfield showcases a pumpkin spiced espresso trifle with pumpkin seed brittle as signature dessert for the season. Conservatory Chef Alvin Dela Cruz features apple blossom pumpkin soup with candied pumpkin seed and cinnamon.

Pumpkin Sunday Brunch features such taste-tempting dishes as pumpkin soup, pumpkin risotto, and pumpkin desserts, as well as other sweet and savory selections. Served Sunday, October 5, 12, 19 and 26, Pumpkin Sunday Brunch is $105 USD per person, exclusive of tax and gratuity.

A series of monthly, demonstration-style cooking events are held every Saturday in October where Navio's Chef de Cuisine Kevin Tanaka highlights seasonal fare sourced from the renowned farms surrounding the resort. The Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Pumpkin In the Kitchen class showcases creative ways to incorporate pumpkin into a menu. Chef Tanaka reviews the different varieties of pumpkins and outlines the best use for each type including which varietal makes the best soup, the perfect pasta or ravioli filling, or stands up to a flavorful curry dish. In the Kitchen events are $85 USD per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity and are held in Navio from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program includes a three-course lunch with wine paired by Sommelier Petra Polakovicova.

A hand-crafted Pumpkin Spicetini is served throughout the season of the great gourd. The cocktail features Grey Goose Poire, pumpkin pie syrup, lemon juice, orange juice, orange bitters and is topped with ginger beer.

Relax
Pumpkins are not only a tasty treat; they also are nourishing to the skin. Throughout October, The Ritz-Carlton Spa features a luxurious 90-minute Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Facial that utilizes a pumpkin enzyme mask. High in beta carotene and vitamins A and C, the mask leaves the skin smooth, plump and hydrated. Guests also enjoy a Signature Manicure or Pedicure featuring pumpkin spice products that are indigenous to Northern California. In The Spa Boutique, guests can purchase a pumpkin scented Me! Bath Ice Cream ball. Comprised of a unique six oil blend, purifying minerals, indulgent fragrances and Epsom salt, the ball melts immediately when submerged in water and releases nourishing minerals and fragrant aromatic oils that hydrate, moisturize and enrich the skin.

The Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival
Guests will not want to miss the 43rd Annual Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, held October 18 through 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Festival features a pumpkin weigh-off, a special display of heavyweight champion pumpkins, three stages of entertainment, the Great Pumpkin Parade, a Haunted House, harvest-inspired crafts, homestyle foods, and expert pumpkin-carver Farmer Mike. Festival admission is free.
