TITUSVILLE, N.J., Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Janssen PMP has announced that SANAFOR™ PO-5 is now registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an antimicrobial masterbatch designed for inclusion in polyolefin materials. SANAFOR™ controls the growth of microorganisms on plastic surfaces, providing long-lasting protection against bacteria, fungi (mold and mildew) and algae that can cause stains, odor and product degradation.
"With today's heightened awareness of the impact of germs in our environment, the inclusion of SANAFOR™ differentiates plastic products by adding value and functionality," says Dave Helmer, director of sales and marketing at Janssen PMP. "SANAFOR™ is safe and easy to use, and its EPA registration gives manufacturers assurance of regulatory compliance."
SANAFOR™ is applicable to a broad range of products in the automotive, industrial, healthcare, textiles, footwear and home and leisure industries – from building materials and appliances to bedding and upholstery containing polyolefins. SANAFOR™ is easily added during polymer processing and has no impact on the mechanical properties of the plastic. It also provides good thermal stability and has low-water solubility, limiting migration from the plastic.
"Silver-based additives have often been used as antimicrobials, but they only actively protect against bacteria and can be cost prohibitive," adds Helmer. "SANAFOR™ is a cost-effective option that offers durable, broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection against bacteria, mold, mildew and algae."

There are 66 million network cameras capturing terabytes of data. How did factories in Japan improve physical security at the facilities and improve employee productivity? Edge Computing reduces possible kilobytes of data collected per second to only a few kilobytes of data transmitted to the public cloud every day. Data is aggregated and analyzed close to sensors so only intelligent results need to be transmitted to the cloud. Non-essential data is recycled to optimize storage.
