Introducing Cafe Finance: New Online Destination for Financial Sector Offers a Platform for News, Idea Exchange and Networking

An interactive internet forum for the global financial community, Cafe Finance serves as news and information portal as well as open exchange for readers to discuss the business/financial world

NEW YORK, Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A new online destination has launched this week for those interested in promoting integrity and transparency in the financial sector. Christened Cafe Finance, the new site is an open forum for financial industry professionals, providing news and interactive discussion on business behavior.

Cafe Finance can be viewed here: www.cafe-finance.com

Calling itself an "interactive forum" founded "to foster greater integrity, transparency and accountability within the industry coming on the heels of the global financial crisis," Cafe Finance offers finance professionals a platform to network for new business opportunities, as well as share insights and critical analysis. Cafe Finance hopes to foster an environment that welcomes debate on such topics as executive compensation, ethics, product marketing and sales practices within the industry, boardroom accountability, shareholder activism, whistleblowing and other issues.

Visitors to the site can easily register and create a user profile that can be customized with a number of messaging options. Users may also opt to create public, private or moderated social groups. Once registered, users can access the site's "Boards" tab to engage in honest dialogue with other users about a number of different business topics.

In addition to its interactive "Boards" tab, Cafe Finance's home page serves as a news portal which runs business headlines of the day, as well as stock winners and losers from the previous trading day close. The "Companies" page tracks news on leading banks, brokerage and insurance companies.

Cafe Finance sells advertising space on the site, but does not charge users for posting content or creating profiles that link to posted content.  Advertisers can click the "Advertise" tab to fill out a short form in order to be contacted by the site's administrators.

In addition to Cafe Finance's current features, a "Jobs" tab will soon be developed on the website.  The tab will allow visitors to search job postings within dozens of different industry categories and metropolitan areas, and will enable recruiters to register and upload job openings.

With the regulatory reforms that have swept through the banking industry as its backdrop, Cafe Finance's goal is to become the go-to site for finance professionals. By enabling users to interact and exchange their ideas, the site's aim is to become a platform for grassroots activity that will improve transparency and promote reform in the financial industry by professionals and others concerned over the loss of integrity in the sector.

Eighty percent of a data scientist’s time is spent gathering and cleaning up data, and 80% of all data is unstructured and almost never analyzed. Cognitive computing, in combination with Big Data, is changing the equation by creating data reservoirs and using natural language processing to enable analysis of unstructured data sources. This is impacting every aspect of the analytics profession from how data is mined (and by whom) to how it is delivered. This is not some futuristic vision: it's ha...
The cloud promises new levels of agility and cost-savings for Big Data, data warehousing and analytics. It's easy to assume that your app will run on a fast and reliable network. The reality for your app's users, though, is often a slow, unreliable network with spotty coverage. What happens when the network doesn't work, or when the device is in airplane mode? You get unhappy, frustrated users. An offline-first app is an app that works, without error, when there is no network connection.

When building large, cloud-based applications that operate at a high scale, it’s important to maintain a high availability and resilience to failures. In order to do that, you must be tolerant of failures, even in light of failures in other areas of your application. “Fly two mistakes high” is an old adage in the radio control airplane hobby. It means, fly high enough so that if you make a mistake, you can continue flying with room to still make mistakes. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Lee...
