Inside Information on Reg. 4 Fire Requirements

Fire Protection Group, Inc. offers its expertise to provide crucial insights to ensure fire code compliance

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As an unprecedented drought continues throughout California, fire safety has never been more important. Intensely dry and hot conditions have led to the outbreak of forest fires throughout the state's rural areas in addition to increasing the risk of fire in urban centers and elsewhere. As a result the state of California has some of the most comprehensive and stringent fire codes in the country to help protect residents and structures. Reg. 4 testing is a significant part of these codes, and George Saadian and the experienced professionals at the Fire Protection Group are here to help you through it.

Reg. 4 Testing Defined

Reg. 4 testing is a state standard used by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) to help protect residents by ensuring their use of effective and properly functioning equipment. Such systems include, but aren't limited to, alarms, sprinklers, smoke detectors, fire escapes, and standpipes . The specific codes differ based on the style of building and number of occupants. The owner of a small private home doesn't need to worry about installing a refrigerant discharge system, for example. However, all buildings will be required to pass the set of standards that are unique to their category.

The Testing Process

Reg. 4 testing, while providing safety by keeping buildings up to current fire codes, is designed to be efficient and productive.  Most systems must pass inspection on a yearly basis, usually within the length of a single month. Because testing may set off alarms within the building, you'll be required to notify all building occupants prior to, during, and at the conclusion of the test.

If any of your systems are found to be insufficient or defective, repairs or additions must be completed within a maximum of 30 days of the initial test. Only systems that don't pass inspection will be retested. The Fire Protection Group will help you make sure your fire control systems pass inspection the first time and every time. A comprehensive and first response alarm system is your first line of defense.

System Upgrade and Repair

Repairs and upgrades must be made by a properly licensed contractor and completed as soon as possible. The fire department will then receive a repair and retest report from the contractor to initiate a retest. All systems that pass inspection will receive special tags by the certified tester, and may not be removed under any circumstances.

The experts at the Fire Protection Group know what it means to have a fully functional, safe fire control system that passes local, state, and federal codes. Their award-winning engineering department provides and installs a full range of systems to suit the needs of any building, whether it's a small residence or large commercial/industrial facility. You'll receive expert consultation by a highly trained, fully licensed team who will ensure that you're protected with the best systems at the best price that always pass inspection.

Information technology is an industry that has always experienced change, and the dramatic change sweeping across the industry today could not be truthfully described as the first time we've seen such widespread change impacting customer investments. However, the rate of the change, and the potential outcomes from today's digital transformation has the distinct potential to separate the industry into two camps: Organizations that see the change coming, embrace it, and successful leverage it; and...
I'm a lonely sensor. I spend all day telling the world how I'm feeling, but none of the other sensors seem to care. I want to be connected. And when all my friends go outside without me, I may be left behind. Don't just log my data; use the relationship graph. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Ryan Boyd, Engi...

Enterprise IT has been in the era of Hybrid Cloud for some time now. But it seems most conversations about Hybrid are focused on integrating AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google ECM into existing on-premises systems. Where is all the Private Cloud? How should enterprise IT executives and buyers define their focus, needs, and roadmap, and communicate that clearly to the providers?
