ROSEMONT, Ill., Aug. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) hosts the IFFAS/AOFAS Meeting the third week of September, 1,000 attendees—what will be record attendance—and 500 company representatives will descend on Chicago. Along with them, many family members and guests will arrive to take part in this world-class event.
Slated for Sept. 19-23, the combined meetings of the AOFAS and the International Federation of Foot & Ankle Societies (IFFAS) are designed to bring together the worldwide orthopaedic foot and ankle community for a full complement of educational sessions and social events.
The meeting format will include symposia covering 12 key topics in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery. Within the symposia, scientific presentations will address such conditions and treatments as Achilles tendon injuries, ankle arthritis, arthroscopy, midfoot/forefoot trauma, plantar fasciitis, sports injuries, total ankle replacement and much more.
In addition, speaker Michael Burlingame, PhD, of the University of Illinois at Springfield, will headline the Joint IFFAS/AOFAS Luncheon on Sept. 21. Burlingame, who is a distinguished chair in Lincoln Studies, will present "What New Can Possibly Be Said About Abraham Lincoln?" to a crowd of several hundred attendees.
Special events during the IFFAS/AOFAS meeting will include a Young Physicians Forum and hands-on, industry-sponsored sessions. An exhibit hall will host more than 88 companies with products dedicated to orthopaedic foot and ankle care and treatment.
In addition to sessions and events being held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, the AOFAS will sponsor several offsite events, including an opening reception at The Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier and a Gala Event designed as a progressive dining tour.
