This is further polymerized to produce polylactic acid (PLA). The biodegradable nature and the use of bio-based raw materials make PLA an effective plastic polymer across various applications. The majority of PLA applications include packaging, which includes short-lived packaging foils used in yoghurt cups, fruit, vegetable, and meat packaging. Further applications include uses in medical science, agriculture, textiles, and so on.
