DALLAS, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Voyager Sopris Learning™, provider of a comprehensive suite of evidence-based preK–12 interventions, assessments, and professional services, is pleased to announce the release of LANGUAGE!® Live Level 2. In field tests, students who received Level 2 instruction demonstrated overall Lexile® growth of 185L after one school year—far exceeding typical growth (based on the Lexile Framework and research from MetaMetrics®). LANGUAGE! Live Level 2 significantly expands the scope and reach of LANGUAGE! Live. Level 2 continues the powerful combination of teacher-led instruction and student-directed technology, while moving students to more advanced literacy levels and providing additional entry points to meet the needs of a larger population of learners. Significant features of the curriculum include:
- Carefully scaffolded learning progression to meet rigorous English Language Arts standards
- High-quality texts and instruction that promote comprehension and understanding of complex ideas
- An early emphasis on speech, language, and literacy foundational skills
- Instruction across all key literacy strands—language, reading, writing, speaking, and listening
- Integration of student-centric activity and peer-to-peer technologies
- Easy-to-implement instructional rotations and classroom routines
- Comprehensive benchmark and progress monitoring system, including the new Power Pass component, which mirrors high-stakes assessments
- A new independent, online, leveled reading library—ReadingScape—with engaging, multimedia text selections
"LANGUAGE! Live Level 1 has already demonstrated unprecedented literacy gains across the country. We are thrilled that the new Level 2 not only makes this instruction accessible to an even wider group of students, but has exceeded educators' expectations by helping students rapidly boost English Language Arts skills so they can access grade level materials," said George Logue, president of Voyager Sopris Learning. The Level 2 field test results were conducted during the 2013–2014 school year in 21 schools nationwide. Results showed that middle school students in grades 6–8 averaged a 185 Lexile gain, surpassing a typical gain of 50–70L; high school students in grade 9–11 averaged a 188 Lexile gain, surpassing a typical gain of 25–50L.* "Our pilot was a large-scale, multi-site implementation…. Students achieved three to four times the usual rate of growth in passage reading comprehension as a consequence of our multi-component, integrated, structured language approach," said author Dr. Louisa Moats. Dr. Janet Macpherson, VP of Research and Product Effectiveness for VSL, went on to say, "These results were indeed impressive for field testing conditions indicating that more significant results are expected with a full year implementation of the complete program.
LANGUAGE! Live is built on nearly two decades of research and was developed by Louisa Moats, Ed.D., an internationally renowned literacy expert, lead author of LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) professional development, and author of numerous journal articles, books, and instructional materials. Read detailed results, take an interactive tour, and watch student videos at www.teachlanguagelive.com. *These are typical results for an average student at the 50th percentile based on research from MetaMetrics. Latest Stories By Elizabeth White One of the biggest challenges with adopting a DevOps mentality is: new applications are easily adapted to cloud-native, microservice-based, or containerized architectures - they can be built for them - but old applications need complex refactoring. On the other hand, these new technologies can require relearning or adapting new, oftentimes more complex, methodologies and tools to be ready for production.

It reduced the footprint by bundling the compute/storage/network into one box. This brought a new set of challenges as the HyperConverged vendors are very focused on their own proprietary building blocks. If you want to scale in a certain way, let's say you identified a need for more storage and want to add a device that is not sold by the HyperConverged vendor, forget about it... Once cloud is part of an enterprise stack, it’s unclear who has responsibility for the protection of applications, services, and data.
When cloud breaches occur, whether active compromise or a publicly accessible database, the blame must fall on both service providers and users.
