REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Emergency University, a trailblazer in emergency response system design, blended emergency medical training and response technologies, was awarded two contracts for CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator) training from the Department of Homeland Security and Investigations and the Army Reserve 81st Regional Support Command (RSC). The Department of Homeland Security and Investigations contract includes nationwide CPR/AED/First Aid training. The Army Reserve 81st RSC contract includes CPR/AED training and management of approximately 300 AEDs located at more than 200 sites.
These wins come at a time when many government agencies and corporations realize that AED/PAD program management is about much more than obtaining certification cards and installing AEDs. Although 40 to 50 million people are CPR/AED certified each year, studies show that real-life victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) receive an effective response (bystander CPR and the attachment of an AED) only two percent of the time. Emergency University is working to save more lives by changing the focus.
"When an organization looks to implement a PAD or AED program, they are often told that the program consists of standard training, data tracking of AED expiration dates and email reminders. Fortunately, Emergency University focuses on the intended goal – preparing people to respond to save lives. Dozens of national corporations and government agencies have caught on to this priority shift. The purchasing decision is more about the effectiveness of the response program and the people trained to act," said Emergency University CEO Doron Braun.
In addition to contracts with Homeland Security and the Army, Emergency University also manages the largest AED program in the US for the Federal Aviation Administration. For the last five years, Emergency University has overseen training and orientation for 20,000 FAA employees at 50 locations, resulting in a 100 percent SCA response rate. Additional government agencies using the WorkSafe™ program include the US Department of Treasury, US Geologic Service and others. More information is available at 1-866-AED-HELP or [email protected].
About Emergency University
Emergency University helps major corporations and government agencies develop effective internal emergency response plans – including comprehensive preparedness training, SCA response programs and advanced technologies. In 1989, Emergency University staff doubled SCA survival in San Francisco when they designed, launched and tested the first large urban AED program in the US. Two years later their program methodology and recommendations were adopted by California's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as statewide guidelines for training, reporting and quality assurance in AED. Since then, the company has trained thousands of non-medical personnel at major corporations and government agencies such as Procter & Gamble, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Google, Zynga and many more. Emergency University trainees have won numerous awards including the "People Saving People" award from the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation.
