Defend Yourself From Prostate Enlargement, Naturally

New York Urologist, Dr. David Samadi Discusses Natural Ways to Prevent BPH

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 08/29/14 -- Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), otherwise known as an enlarged prostate is a preventable condition that often can be treated naturally. "It's always a good idea to look at ways to prevent prostate conditions such as BPH via natural methods," says Chairman of Urology and Chief of Robotic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, David B. Samadi, MD. Prevention entails disease awareness, health maintenance as well as building up immunity against a wide range of prostate conditions.

BPH, which affects men 40 years or older, has become increasingly common and the condition only worsens with age. As men age, their bodies convert testosterone to DHT, which enlarges the prostate cores. Non-medical treatments, like hydrotherapy, or a Sitz bath, relieve the prostate muscles by increasing the blood circulation. Used with Epsom salts and varying temperatures, it drains the ducts of the enlarged prostate. "It is a low-cost and low-risk therapy and only take 20 minutes," says Dr. Samadi.

Why try natural herbs for prostate health?
Many prostate problems can be treated with herbs. Homeopathic remedies include vitamin E, selenium, phytosterols, saw palmetto, pygeum africanum, nettle root, flower pollen, beta-sitosterol, vitamin B, zinc, amino acids, pumpkin seeds and other essential amino acids. "European men have used natural preventive methods for BPH successfully for decades," explains Dr. Samadi. "Approximately 90% of European BPH patients used phytopharmaceuticals like saw palmetto, which costs roughly less than a fifth of prostate-specific medications, with better results and fewer side effects."

Saw palmetto, a phytosterol, is currently the most popular natural remedy as it inhibits the conversion of testosterone into DHT. The herb can also reduce the urge for nocturnal urination by up to 25%. Combining the herb with zinc, the treatment can also aid men with non-malignant prostate enlargement. The highest concentration of zinc in the body is found in the prostate gland. Men who have enlarged prostates usually have a low level of zinc in their prostate fluid and semen. A prostate infection could signify a low zinc level in the prostate. "Therefore, zinc is the most vital nutrient for prostate health," says Dr. Samadi.

Herbs for prostate health

Vitamin E and Lycopene - Studies have shown a reduction of prostate cancer by 30-50% with 200-400 IU (International Units) per day of Vitamin E. A 5-mg daily supplement of Lycopene, the active ingredient in tomatoes, watermelon and raspberries, was confirmed to have a positive effect on aggressive prostate cancer.

Selenium - A Memorial Sloan-Kettering report found a reduction in prostate cancer in subjects that took Selenium. Worldwide research has shown up to a 70% reduction of prostate cancer in those taking 100 to 200 mg per day of Selenium.

Garlic - Reports have shown a beneficial effect of garlic on bladder cancer in animal studies, which have been extrapolated to include positive impact on urinary symptoms and prostate health.

Isoflavonoids - Diets high in soy proteins, as well as other compounds with phytoestrogenic properties, have been shown to reduce prostate cancer. Recommended daily consumption is 100 to 150 mg.

"It's important to take the supplements in the recommended dosage and frequency," says Dr. Samadi. "Otherwise, you will not get the most from the active ingredient."

Additionally, Dr. Samadi recommends that men begin taking the supplements by the age of 45 and taking them on a long-term basis is ideal in order to combat the effects of enlarged prostate symptoms.

To Really Work for Enterprises, MultiCloud Adoption Requires Far Better and Inclusive Cloud Monitoring and Cost Management … But How? Overwhelmingly, even as enterprises have adopted cloud computing and are expanding to multi-cloud computing, IT leaders remain concerned about how to monitor, manage and control costs across hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. It’s clear that traditional IT monitoring and management approaches, designed after all for on-premises data centers, are falling short in ...
When applications are hosted on servers, they produce immense quantities of logging data. Quality engineers should verify that apps are producing log data that is existent, correct, consumable, and complete. Otherwise, apps in production are not easily monitored, have issues that are difficult to detect, and cannot be corrected quickly. Tom Chavez presents the four steps that quality engineers should include in every test plan for apps that produce log output or other machine data. Learn the ste...
Adding public cloud resources to an existing application can be a daunting process. The tools that you currently use to manage the software and hardware outside the cloud aren’t always the best tools to efficiently grow into the cloud. All of the major configuration management tools have cloud orchestration plugins that can be leveraged, but there are also cloud-native tools that can dramatically improve the efficiency of managing your application lifecycle.
