Federated Wireless Names Iyad Tarazi as Chief Executive Officer

Federated Wireless, which develops technologies to maximize the utilization of spectrum resources, today named Iyad Tarazi, the former Sprint Corp. executive who spearheaded that company’s Network Vision network modernization project, as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Iyad Tarazi was Vice President of Network Development at Sprint, overseeing the development and integration of new products and technologies within Sprint’s networks and managing Sprint Nextel’s technology integration labs. Prior to the Sprint-Nextel merger, he led Nextel’s Network Engineering organization, managing network planning, integration performance engineering, testing, and core deployment initiatives. He has also held positions with MCI and serves as a Board member for CafeX Communications, which specializes in collaborative software development.

Tarazi’s experience designing Sprint’s network provides him with a strong understanding of the challenges that carriers, and the broader wireless industry, face in managing and maximizing the use of spectrum. An explosion in the use of wireless communications, and in particular video content delivery, has led to a growing deficiency in spectrum and prompted federal users as well as commercial carriers to seek ways of better utilizing this scarce resource.

Federated Wireless has been an active participant in the rulemaking process managed by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to address this issue, and is building a proprietary Spectrum Access System (SAS) that leverages advanced cognitive radio techniques to provide secure, dynamic and efficient sharing of spectrum resources.

“Federated Wireless has an opportunity to play a major role in creating the architecture of the next generation of wireless,” Tarazi said. “The company has built the technologies and techniques that will allow us to protect national security and share spectrum between multiple users outside of the government. This will enable more investment in wireless, and allow us to realize the full economic and commercial value of this important resource.”

The SAS developed by Federated Wireless, known as Spectrum Director, allows three tiers of access to spectrum by minimizing the exclusion zones that result from concentrations of radar systems along U.S. coasts and managing interference; optimizing spectrum usage amongst multiple user groups; and providing essential levels of security and obfuscation to enable the highest and best use of the scarce resource. This makes it possible to open up more spectrum for commercial services in the locations and times needed to deploy a viable nationwide network than what could be enabled by other SAS providers.

The FCC has designated two frequency bands as “Fast Track” spectrum for commercial use. Virginia-based Federated Wireless has provided proposals for a three-step licensing model and system architecture, incorporating large parts of the Revised Framework as proposed by the FCC.

“The addition of Iyad Tarazi to Federated Wireless’ world-class technology team reinforces our belief that the company is poised to be a leader in the growth of mobile broadband and the development of 5G (fifth generation) cellular communications,” said John Serafini, Vice President at Allied Minds, the primary investor in Federated Wireless.

More information about the company’s products, as well as copies of its filings to the FCC, can be found at www.federatedwireless.com. Federated Wireless is a subsidiary of Allied Minds (LSE: ALM).

Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome,” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.
Organizations from small to large are increasingly adopting cloud solutions to deliver essential business services at a much lower cost. According to cyber security experts, the frequency and severity of cyber-attacks are on the rise, causing alarm to businesses and customers across a variety of industries. To defend against exploits like these, a company must adopt a comprehensive security defense strategy that is designed for their business. In 2015, organizations such as United Airlines, Sony...
The Internet of Things is in the early stages of mainstream deployment but it promises to unlock value and rapidly transform how organizations manage, operationalize, and monetize their assets. IoT is a complex structure of hardware, sensors, applications, analytics and devices that need to be able to communicate geographically and across all functions. Once the data is collected from numerous endpoints, the challenge then becomes converting it into actionable insight.
Puppet Labs has announced the next major update to its flagship product: Puppet Enterprise 2015.2. This release includes new features providing DevOps teams with clarity, simplicity and additional management capabilities, including an all-new user interface, an interactive graph for visualizing infrastructure code, a new unified agent and broader infrastructure support.
Consumer IoT applications provide data about the user that just doesn’t exist in traditional PC or mobile web applications. This rich data, or “context,” enables the highly personalized consumer experiences that characterize many consumer IoT apps. This same data is also providing brands with unprecedented insight into how their connected products are being used, while, at the same time, powering highly targeted engagement and marketing opportunities. Amazon and Google have built software-defined data centers (SDDCs) that deliver massively scalable services with great efficiency. Yet, building SDDCs has proven to be a near impossibility for ‘normal’ companies without hyper-scale resources. In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, David Cauthron, founder and chief executive officer of Nimboxx, will discuss the evolution of virtualization (hardware, application, memory, storage) and how commodity / open source hyper converged infrastructure (HCI) so...
In their Live Hack” presentation at 17th Cloud Expo, Stephen Coty and Paul Fletcher, Chief Security Evangelists at Alert Logic, will provide the audience with a chance to see a live demonstration of the common tools cyber attackers use to attack cloud and traditional IT systems. This “Live Hack” uses open source attack tools that are free and available for download by anybody. Attendees will learn where to find and how to operate these tools for the purpose of testing their own IT infrastructu...
The web app is agile. The REST API is agile. The testing and planning are agile. But alas, data infrastructures certainly are not. Once an application matures, changing the shape or indexing scheme of data often forces at best a top down planning exercise and at worst includes schema changes that force downtime. The time has come for a new approach that fundamentally advances the agility of distributed data infrastructures. Come learn about a new solution to the problems faced by software organ...
