Wearable Biosensor Patent, the Grandfather of Wearable Biosensor Transmission Patents, Granted to Donald Spector, One of the Most Prolific Living Inventors in the World

Biosensors to Monitor Critical Changes to the Human Body, Enabling Life Saving Opportunities

NEW YORK, Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Donald Spector, a renowned celebrated entrepreneur and inventor, has been granted US Pat.# 8,823,512 for a Wearable Biosensor, which will issue today, September 2, 2014, adding to his large portfolio in this field.  Mr. Spector holds some of the earliest patents in biosensor transmissions.

The announcement was made today by New York College of Health Professions, which has grown in recent years into a powerhouse of world-class intellectual properties.  New York College noted that the Wearable Biosensor patent predates the patents of the industry's leading technology companies. Mr. Spector, Chairman of New York College, has donated the patent to the College under the intellectual property policies of the institution.  New York College expects to license it to an outside company.

Other recent patents that Mr. Spector has granted to the College include contributions in 3D-printing for orthopedic inserts, LEDs that disrupt DNA to kill pathogens and other life-saving technologies. Spector has also recently been granted patents for WiFi, WiMax and Bluetooth Streaming for Internet Stations that can be used on smartphones to control imaging and sound in home environments as well as other applications.  The College has signed memoranda of understanding with Wake Forest Innovations of the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, New York Medical College of the Touro College and University System and is working with some billion dollar companies to develop and commercialize its intellectual property. New York College, which was transformed under the leadership of Mr. Spector, is now a premier institution of its kind in holistic health.

While medical and computer technologies have become specialties of Mr. Spector's companies, he has a diversified background of inventing and an ever-expanding portfolio of patents. He has been responsible in the past for launching several billion dollar industries with products including the Muscle Worker from AMF, the first hydraulic exerciser; the first hyperbaric chamber for seeds; the first electronic air fresheners, for which Bristol-Myers Squibb created a separate division; and the first location based advertising patents, the foundation behind the super app Poynt. Mr. Spector invented and holds patents for hundreds of other products in fields as broad and varied as toys, clothing, crafts, footwear, beverage systems, candy and entertainment, as well as technologies in the fields of medicine, security systems, telecommunications and computers.

Among the other products he has developed are: the Fireball with CBS Toys, the Aroma Disc System, Vent Fresh (vent clips a leading car air freshener for over 25 years), the Giorgio Sant' Angelo line of home fragrances, WWF Wall Bangers for Jakks Pacific, the Barbie Jewelry Making Kit for Mattel, Balzac Balloon Balls that were licensed to both Hasbro and Wham-O, and Deco Discs, for which he also named and founded a recording company.

One of the largest areas of specialty for Mr. Spector is computers. He licensed his real-time 3D animation patent and in addition to licensing the first known patents for location based advertising is now considering placing his new monetization patents for location based advertising and payment systems with either a small company within the computer industry or retaining it as protection for a large client in the software internet business that can use it to both expand upon and possibly go up against his own earlier patents.

Mr. Spector is also a published author of "The Self Improved," which is distributed in the U.S. by Random House and abroad by Citic Press.  He was the Executive Producer of "Magic on Broadway" and a previous owner of a recording company. 

Risk taking has always been a part of Mr. Spector's life. Partnering with his cousin Sam Rubin, owner of John Henry, the richest horse in racing history, the two used the race horse's winnings to back a major technology, which in turn became successful in the 1980's.
