Men with Enlarged Prostate and BPH Have Improved Options with Introduction of Urolift Procedure and 4KScore Prostate Cancer Test for Evaluation of Elevated PSA

Innovative Urolift procedure for treatment of BPH in men has minimal side effects

NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Symptoms of enlarged prostate affect millions of men, who suffer needlessly from frequent urination and difficulty emptying their bladder. Urinary tract obstruction from BPH can cause dangerous bladder problems in men including urinary retention, UTI and kidney failure.

New York Urology Specialists.

According to Dr. Alex Shteynshlyuger, Director of Urology at New York Urology Specialists, "men with urinary problems should see an experienced urologist. Early treatment can prevent unpleasant complications." He adds that with modern treatment options such as the Urolift system for BPH and Greenlight laser, "the benefits are often dramatic and side effects are limited."

Urolift System for BPH and Enlarged Prostate is a same-day procedure that effectively treats men with BPH symptoms with few sexual side-effects of common BPH treatment options. For men who are not candidates for Urolift, other treatment options including Greenlight Laser are available.

It is important to know that men with symptoms of enlarged prostate may have prostate cancer that can cause similar urinary symptoms.

Traditionally, the PSA test has been recommended for early detection of prostate cancer. Many men with mildly elevated PSA and symptoms of enlarged prostate do not have prostate cancer.

Recently, for men with elevated PSA, improved tests that include 4KScore as well as Prostate Health Index (PHI) have become available. These tests can replace the PSA test as they provide improved information and can help avoid unnecessary biopsies. 4K score prostate cancer test helps predict which men are more likely to have aggressive prostate cancer.
