Mosquito Repellent Band by Gogadgety Inc. Uses Geraniol Oil as Non-Toxic, Non-Harmful Alternative to DEET

The makers of invisaband are so confident in the effectiveness of geraniol oil that the product is backed with a 60-day, money-back guarantee

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Gogadgety Inc. has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for invisaband, a natural mosquito repellent band. Unlike other products on the market, invisaband does not use DEET or other toxic chemicals in its materials. Instead, it provides a safe and natural alternative in the form of a long-lasting, microfibre bracelet. Creators of invisaband plan to raise $10,000 for the project by September 13.

Geraniol oil, typically collected from a geranium flower, is the secret ingredient to invisaband's repellent. Geraniol is a natural essential oil that studies have found to be more effective at keeping mosquitoes away than citronella and in some cases, even DEET. Geraniol is a biodegradable ingredient that is safe to use and is classified as a "minimum risk" pesticide by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

"Geraniol oil is the first effective alternative to products containing DEET, the most widely used active ingredient in insect repellents not on the market," Jerry Butler, entomologist with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences said. "After relying on DEET-based products for more than 40 years, this is a breakthrough that should revolutionize the market."

Geraniol has a natural tendency to evaporate. As it vaporizes into the air it disorients mosquitoes, so that the wearer of invisaband is almost invisible to them. The unique microfibre material of invisaband slows this evaporation process, making it a potent repellent for more than 120 hours. When not in use, invisaband can be stored in the provided airtight pouch. The makers of invisaband are so confident in the effectiveness of invisaband that they are even backing their product with a 60-day, money-back guarantee.

Those interested can contribute to invisaband's crowdfunding campaign to buy their own set of invisabands. Just $19 earns contributors one pack of five invisabands with included shipping. After the campaign, the retail price will be $31 ($25 for the pack, plus $6 shipping). With billions of sensors deployed worldwide, the amount of machine-generated data will soon exceed what our networks can handle. But consumers and businesses will expect seamless experiences and real-time responsiveness. What does this mean for IoT devices and the infrastructure that supports them? More of the data will need to be handled at - or closer to - the devices themselves.
