The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) today announced CNET as the exclusive media partner for the 2015 Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards, which honors the best in global Bluetooth innovation. CNET will showcase this year’s program and the top submissions in its coverage, and will also lead the charge in selecting the overall winner, along with category winners. So CNET is in, are you?
“We’re excited to have a global technology powerhouse such as CNET on board to take our Bluetooth Breakthrough Awards program to the next level,” said Suke Jawanda, Bluetooth SIG CMO. “The addition of CNET’s rich expertise across various tech segments and global media reach allows the SIG to continue to shine a light on the work our membership is doing and on the innovations fueling today’s connected world and the possibilities of the future.”
In its third year, this industry-leading awards program celebrates the world’s best Bluetooth enabled products, applications, prototypes, and student projects. With more than 200 entries last year, the program continues to grow as Bluetooth empowers developers, OEMs, and innovators to make the Internet of Things a reality for consumers around the globe.
“We are eager to see the breadth and depth of Bluetooth products, applications, prototypes, and projects submitted from companies large and small,” said John Falcone, Executive Editor at CNET. “Bluetooth technology plays an integral role across home, health, fitness, automotive, and all consumer electronics, and we look forward to evaluating the most creative use, and the best implementation, of the technology.”
CNET joins award platinum sponsors CSR, Frontline Test Equipment, Inc., and Nordic Semiconductor ASA in encouraging submissions in the program’s four categories: Product, Application, Prototype, and Student-led Projects. The Product, Application, and Prototype category winners will be recognized in CNET coverage and be invited to attend a media event at Mobile World Congress. The Student category winner will earn a cash prize of $5,000 USD. The overall winner will also be awarded two round trip tickets to attend Bluetooth World 2015, which includes event entry and free exhibition space, valued at $12,500 USD.
The deadline for submissions is December 5, 2014. Review units need to be shipped and received by December 8, 2014. The submission guidelines and online nomination form are available at Bluetooth.org.

Consumer IoT applications provide data about the user that just doesn’t exist in traditional PC or mobile web applications. This rich data, or “context,” enables the highly personalized consumer experiences that characterize many consumer IoT apps. This same data is also providing brands with unprecedented insight into how their connected products are being used, while, at the same time, powering highly targeted engagement and marketing opportunities. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Nathan Trel...

Amazon and Google have built software-defined data centers (SDDCs) that deliver massively scalable services with great efficiency. Yet, building SDDCs has proven to be a near impossibility for ‘normal’ companies without hyper-scale resources. In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, David Cauthron, founder and chief executive officer of Nimboxx, will discuss the evolution of virtualization (hardware, application, memory, storage) and how commodity / open source hyper converged infrastructure (HCI) so...
