SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - September 04, 2014) - MOTA has launched a crowd-sourced campaign on Indiegogo to help fund production of its highly advanced MOTA SmartRing. The SmartRing debuts tomorrow at IFA, the consumer electronics event in Berlin.
When paired with an Android or iPhone, MOTA SmartRing wearers receive notifications of incoming calls, text messages, calendar notifications and email.
SmartRing wearers can use a companion app to decide whose calls and which events they want to know about. They can set different types of alerts to signal specific people and events.
"Notification of incoming calls, texts and app updates has become the single most important function of a mobile phone," said MOTA Co-Founder Kevin Faro.
"But it's also become a major thorn in the side of the mobile user. The types and sources of notifications are proliferating rapidly. Users tell us they continually have to delve into different apps on their phones and are becoming swamped trying to keep up. The MOTA SmartRing gives wearers a super easy and very natural way to see who's trying to reach them no matter where they may be."
The SmartRing can display notifications in text form, with the wearer able scroll through words at the speed they wish. The ring also lets wearers enable and disable audible and tactile alerts, providing maximum discretion over notifications for times when checking a phone may be inappropriate.
If enough people support the SmartRing, MOTA will add notifications for popular apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Uber, and LinkedIn.

Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target –...
