Mobile Learning in the US Surges to $2.1 Billion by 2019

The US is the Largest Mobile Learning Market in the World According to New Ambient Insight Report

SEATTLE, July 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Revenues for Mobile Learning products and services in the US reached $1.6 billion in 2014, according to a new report by Ambient Insight called "The 2014-2019 US Mobile Learning Market." The US is a mature market with a relatively healthy growth rate (for a mature market) at 5.3%. Revenues will reach $2.1 billion by 2019. The Mobile Learning revenues in the US are heavily concentrated in the consumer segment throughout the forecast period.

The US was the top buying country for Mobile Learning in 2014, followed by China. Spending on Mobile Learning in China will start to outpace the spending in the US in the 2017-2018 timeframe and China will be the top buying country by 2019, followed closely by the US. By 2019, China and the US combined will account for 31% of all Mobile Learning expenditures on the planet.

"The spike in revenues for Mobile Learning products in the US is due to seven primary catalysts," explains Chief Research Officer, Sam S. Adkins. "These include the content digitization initiatives in the PreK-12 segment, tablet adoption in the PreK-12 segment, the massive consumer demand for mobile educational content, the highly-concentrated demand for early childhood learning apps, the strong demand for Location-based Learning products, the proliferation (and rapid innovation) of augmented reality educational apps, and the wave of new virtual reality learning apps coming on the market."

There are two sections in this report: a demand-side analysis and a supply-side analysis. Additionally, there is an index of suppliers competing in the region. The demand-side analysis is broken out by six buying segments: consumers, federal government agencies, PreK-12 school systems, state/local (county and municipal) government agencies, higher education institutions, and corporations & businesses.

"Consumers are the largest buyers of Mobile Learning in the US by a wide margin," comments Adkins. "Consumer buying behavior in the US is being driven by several factors, particularly a spike in the demand for mobile edugames for young children and the huge demand for mobile brain trainers and language learning apps. In the consumer section of the demand-side analysis, the combined expenditures on packaged content and Mobile Learning VAS content are broken out by eight subject categories and by six mobile edugame types."

The supply-side analysis breaks out revenues by four product types: packaged retail educational apps & edugames, value added services (VAS), custom content development services, and authoring tools & platforms.

"The two product types with the largest growth rates in US are Mobile Learning VAS and retail packaged products at 9.1% and 6.1%, respectively," reports Adkins. "While the growth rate is relatively high, Mobile Learning VAS revenues are still quite low in the US. Mobile Learning VAS is wildly popular in other countries, particularly in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, but still quite rare in the US."

Over 60 suppliers operating in the US are cited in this report to help international suppliers identify local partners, distributors, resellers, and potential merger and acquisition (M&A) targets.
