7 Things to Expect from the DevOps Roadtrip

Summer is kicking off and we are on the road in search of the best and brightest minds to talk about all things DevOps. We just finished our second stop in Seattle, Washington – floating 100 ft up on a private floor in the Space Needle. The entire event was filled with panoramic views of the entire city on one of the clearest days of the year. If you’re thinking about hitting the road with us at our next stop in San Francisco, here is what you need to know for the ride.

1.  You’re going to get a cool t-shirt. Imagine the day when you can walk into an event, check in and be handed cool swag without having to listen to a sales guy. Oh wait, that just happened, in Seattle, at the Devops Roadtrip. If you don’t think “cool t-shirts” when you think VictorOps, then you don’t know what you’re missing! We have specially made “DevOps Roadtrip” t-shirts exclusive for all roadtrip attendees. Sign up now to make get in on this sweet deal.

2.  You’re going to learn something new. DevOps-focused conferences are great, but we understand how busy you are. Sometimes taking two days or even one whole day, can lead to a bottomless pit of emails and backlogs that you feel like you’ll never get out of. We found a way to cram all of the DevOps talks and discussion goodness into an awesome ½-day event. Expect to wear your learning pants, and yes, J. Paul Reed quizzed the entire room. (For those of you too young to know, that’s actual pen and paper that people are using in the picture below.)

3.  You’re going to want to act a little touristy. And that’s okay since we are stopping at some of the greatest landmarks around the country! We would judge you if you didn’t catch that perfect selfie. Better yet take a photo in front of our official DevOps Roadtrip backdrop!

4.  You will eat like a king. Don’t expect your typical roadtrip diet of red vines, pizza combos and lukewarm soda pop. Our trip started off with prime rib, grilled salmon, russet potatoes, fresh veggies and nice warm bread. For our snack, we had a nacho bar stocked with queso, salsa and guacamole. Happy hour topped it off with caprese skewers, sushi & Sashimi, mahi mahi tacos, pork pulled sliders and goat cheese brulee. Oh and don’t forget the fresh Starbucks coffee with blondies and brownies fully stocked throughout the day. Did somebody say foodie’s paradise?

5.  We’re all about open communication. This event is about attendee participation. A large part of the event is focused around attendee and speaker breakout sessions. The Seattle topics included: The Leadership Evolution: How to Lead in this Brave New World; Security+Compliance in a DevOps World; and Finding Signal in the Noise. DevOps thought leaders from companies like Starbucks, DataDog, PlayFab, ThoughtWorks, VictorOps, along with independent consultant, J. Paul Reed, led two 30-min. discussions around topics of their choice. The participation is what truly makes the breakouts valuable, so speak up!

6.  Happy hour is always the best hour. Did we mention the open bar at the end of the day’s activities?

7.  Expect to leave with some new friends. We love our DevOps community, and we are so excited to be able to learn, share and network with every city we stop in. DevOps is all about making life easier, isn’t everything always a little easier when you’re in good company?
