Deloitte Expands Support for OMOP, OHDSI as Part of its Comprehensive Suite of Cloud-Based ConvergeHEALTH Evidence Lifecycle Management Solutions

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Deloitte announced today that its ConvergeHEALTH Miner™ platform now supports tools from the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI), as well as the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) common data model, making it the first professional services organization to incorporate these tools and applications into a broader solution portfolio to drive innovation and improve clinical outcomes through evidence management.

OHDSI is a multi-stakeholder, interdisciplinary collaborative that generates high quality insights out of observational health data. Its goal is to leverage its research community to drive standards and open source tools and methodologies to advance the science of informatics for the ultimate benefit of patients. The OMOP data model is a shared resource with tools and capabilities for transforming, characterizing and analyzing disparate data sources across the health care ecosystem.

Deloitte's ConvergeHEALTH Miner is a modular platform that helps clients support an end-to-end enterprise evidence lifecycle from R&D through commercial insights. The suite is now capable of supporting the OMOP common data model, as well as the broader set of OHDSI tools, as part of its cloud-based, big data solution for evidence management. Now with Miner, life sciences and health care organizations can more easily navigate the shift to value-based, personalized models of care.

"The healthcare ecosystem is undergoing unprecedented change, including the way life science organizations develop and commercialize products with patient outcomes becoming the central currency of value," said Brett Davis, principal and general manager, ConvergeHEALTH, Deloitte Consulting LLP. "Achieving the promise of value-based, personalized medicine is truly a team effort and we fully embrace the community-based advancements that OHDSI is driving. These advancements help our life sciences and health care clients improve health care outcomes for patients by leveraging tools and the broader ecosystem collaboration they enable."

Clinical trials now only represent about 4-6 percent of the total volume of information about patients, according to Becker's Hospital Review, and the volume and diversity of health care data are growing exponentially — from 500 petabytes in 2013 to a projected 25,000 by 2020. This mass of data requires changes in the people, processes and technologies to drive insight from the data across the evidence lifecycle as well as new collaborations across the health care ecosystem to leverage it to advance innovation and patient care.

"Data can no longer survive in disparate siloes and must be linked in a system of networks that drive insights into what is working and why to help better serve patients. At Celgene, we understand the need to support the interaction of data sets across the company, as well as outside the organization. By developing a foundational capability, we can start to effectively utilize information to achieve our vision of transforming patients' lives, one data-driven decision at a time," said Gertjan Bartlema, vice president, information, knowledge and utilization at Celgene, one of the members of OHDSI. "Our support of open source communities like OHDSI helps to build an ecosystem that makes that vision a reality that Celgene could never achieve alone."

"The power of the OHDSI community is based on its embrace of, contributions to and utilization by an ecosystem of public and private collaborators," said Dr. Jon Duke, director of health analytics and informatics at Georgia Tech, and a founding member of OHDSI. "I am excited to see its continued adoption by organizations like Deloitte and Celgene as this helps to advance the science and solutions faster, ultimately for the improvement of our health care system and patients."
