SAN ANTONIO, TX--(Marketwired - September 22, 2016) - USAA named Michael Merwarth as executive vice president, Enterprise Strategy & Marketing, reporting to CEO Stuart Parker, effective Oct. 10. Merwarth was recently senior vice president and Chief Underwriter of USAA Property and Casualty Company. He joins the association's executive council team and succeeds Wayne Peacock, who was recently named president, USAA Property and Casualty Insurance Group.
"Over 20 years at USAA, Michael has delivered in key enterprise and P&C roles, including strategy, business transformation, product management and underwriting. His success and experience in P&C will continue to benefit the association and our ESM team," said CEO Stuart Parker.

Merwarth started at USAA as a member service representative 23 years ago. He has held several senior leadership positions prior to his appointment as Chief Underwriter in 2011 including product management, strategy and business transformation.
Merwarth also led USAA's innovation efforts in P&C. His team was responsible for USAA being one of the first insurance companies to seek Federal Aviation Administration approval to use drones following a catastrophe, forging relationships with emerging technology companies in the connected car and home space, and championing efforts to prevent home and auto losses and keep members safe.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and has been active in several industry and trade groups including the Institute for Business and Home Safety, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, and The Institutes (CPCU). Merwarth earned a Bachelor of Arts in management from Our Lady of the Lake University.
