Makeblock Kickstarts the First Modular, Programmable and Transformable Drone Designed for Beginners and STEM Learning

Airblock is easy-to-setup and control via mobile app, allowing you to build your own drone/hovercraft to control and program in minutes

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Makeblock (Makeblock  Co., Ltd), a leading DIY robotics construction platform, creator of the robot mBot anyone can build and code, has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the first modular and visual programming drone, Airblock.

Build it, Code it, Fly it with Airblock

Unlike any other, Airblock is made of magnetic, modular parts that connect together to form the drone or hovercraft. It is easy to assemble and dismantle and holds together strong through flights and stunts. Beginners and enthusiasts can put Airblock together and start programming through the app in minutes. Airblock modular blocks are replaceable and made of durable EPP (engineered plastic foam) material, which makes Airblock kid and crash-friendly.

"We created Airblock because drones are a great way to teach STEM," says Jasen Wang, Founder of Makeblock. "And STEM education has always been our beat and passion. People have this notion that coding can only be done on computers in a room, but coding can be done anywhere. We wanted to show this through our Airblock drone -- that you can build it code it and see it physically come to life within minutes and all from the palm of your hand. You also learn to be creative when you DIY."

After creating many programmable gadgets such as mBot and Codeybot, Makeblock is taking over the sky, the land and the water. Airblock uses simple visual programming, a programming language utilizing graphic elements rather than text. Through visual programming through its simple downloadable mobile app, children and adults of all ages can create their own stunts easily!

Every Airblock Drone features:

Flight Time - 6 mins
Flight Height - 10 meters
Max Speed - 1.5m/s
Weight - 140g

The Airblock Hovercraft features:

Hover Time - 8 mins
Max Speed - 2.5 m/s
Weight - 200g

Designed for Ages 8 and up, Airblock is Bluetooth connects directly to the Makeblock mobile app (will be available for iOS and Android). Basic functions include rise and fall, advance and retreat and side to side flight. With visual programming integrated into the App, users can also perform advanced features like hover, somersault and other customizable stunts.

Makeblock has continued to establish its name in the STEM education field with more than 500 metal parts, electronic modules as well as software and over 20 robot kits to more than 140 countries around the world. Makeblock's Airblock uniquely shifts the popularity of drones into a learning experiment in robotics and programming, creating a fun learning and environment and dynamic product.

Pre-orders are starting now at just $99, via Kickstarter. With its modular parts and simple visual mobile app, Airblock is exciting and easy to construct and customize for anyone who is interested in drones, robotics or gadgets.
