Actifio OnVault Helps Enterprise Customers Move Faster to Amazon Web Services

OnVault solution integrates long-term data retention with instant access to AWS for today's data-driven digital enterprises

BOSTON, Nov. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Actifio, the copy data virtualization company, today announced availability of OnVault on Amazon Web Services (AWS) as part of its hybrid cloud data management solution. Actifio enables enterprise customers to move faster to Amazon AWS by extending legacy data center applications and infrastructure, enabling instant access even to archived data for analytics and business intelligence.

The term "vault" comes from the practice of locking away tape media literally in a physical vault for compliance requirements, expecting never to be used again. More recently, as the need to recover data became a regulatory requirement, expensive deduplication disk devices were used to store data for the long term. Both of these practices result in a graveyard of data that is complex to manage, rarely useable, locked into vendor's proprietary formats and has become a significant cost of doing business.

Built on Actifio's data virtualization technology, OnVault on AWS combines the low-cost infrastructure of cloud-based, long-term data retention and delivers instant application-native data access to drive business acceleration with business intelligence, analytics, compliance and data warehousing tools. Features include:

  • Instant testability and recovery of archived data
  • Elimination of manual labor, time-consuming processes and cost of managing tapes
  • Automatic expiry policies aligned with regulatory requirements across many verticals
  • Leveraging of archived data to run analytics on Amazon RedShift without the need for another data migration or redundant data copy

"As more of our customers transition their data archives to the cloud, we want to be able to grant them access to that data quickly - anytime, anywhere," said Sabina Joseph, Head of Global Storage Partnerships & Alliances, Amazon Web Services. "Actifio provides large-scale data virtualization and management tools, and with the new OnVault solution on AWS, our customers can now harness the power of their archived data and use it to help drive further business goals and innovations."

OnVault allows businesses to have a single data management solution to handle the entire lifecycle of data generated by business applications, social media, machine logs, and Internet of Things (IoT), among other sources, from creation, protection, analysis, and compliance to eventual deletion, both on-premises or on the AWS Cloud.

"Our IT staff has a wide range of responsibilities, so we appreciate how easily Actifio's OnVault feature handles our local backup and how simple Actifio makes using AWS for disaster recovery," said Darryl Anunson, IT Manager, pc/nametag. "In less than 30 minutes we recovered from an outage that would have lasted three or four hours with our old system. Actifio's infrastructure-agnostic technology paid for itself in that one day and we are excited to continue leveraging the power of Actifio on AWS."

"Traditional data archival solutions were built for the era of physical businesses. Today's digital enterprises are data-driven and need instant access to data at every stage of its lifecycle," said Ash Ashutosh, Co-founder and CEO of Actifio. "With the power of OnVault on AWS, our enterprise customers will be able to leverage their investment in data archive on the AWS cloud and unlock business value by re-using that data for business intelligence and analytics on AWS."
