MetTel's Leading SD-WAN Solution Helps Wunderlich Respond Faster to Financial Market Shifts

Financial services firm to capitalize on surges in investor interest through network performance improvements

NEW YORK, Jan. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- MetTel, a leading communications solutions provider for enterprises and businesses, today announced that financial services firm Wunderlich has accelerated its ability to respond to investor interest in stock market shifts through MetTel's software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) solution.

Wunderlich's improved speed and connectivity allows the firm to make financial decisions for customers in real-time, which means increased profits and positive customer experience. Additionally, switching to MetTel has saved the company more than $35,000 in upfront costs and over $12,000 annually on IT infrastructure spend.

For the past 20 years, Wunderlich has provided a broad offering of wealth management, equity research and investment banking services to individuals, corporations and institutions. In that time, the company's growth has experienced bursts of acceleration and currently the company is opening new sales and investment banking offices in targeted cities across the U.S. With this growth, and as a 24/7 operation, the company needed to implement reliable and consistent communications solutions.

"The financial industry is one where being able to operate with zero downtime is crucial. Having the ability to put a router, a switch, and the phones in place means the difference between thousands and millions of dollars made for clients," said Ed Fox, Vice President of Network Services, MetTel. "Our SD-WAN solution gives customers like Wunderlich the ability to be connected to timely news and important information that directly impacts their customers from a fiduciary perspective. The flexibility with the system allows Wunderlich to have all its IT infrastructure needs in place within 72 hours. Given Wunderlich's commitment to its customers, being immediately available for questions and concerns is a top priority."

Wunderlich was previously on a TTL system and had to install phones through Nortel at each office site as well as pay for the switch, phones, and also to have an engineer come in to install the system. Facing a lack of responsive, cost-effective telecommunications support, Wunderlich was looking for faster and more integrated operations at its newly opened offices. To further complicate matters, Wunderlich offices are in over 30 cities nationally, with phone systems split between four carriers and broadband spread among six carriers.

Wunderlich turned to MetTel and the company's SD-WAN solution which was up and running in time to capture the market opportunity created by the surprising federal election outcome, which sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 to record highs. This resulted in Wunderlich realizing a significant increase in customer service and responsiveness due to improved network performance enabled by increased bandwidth that SD-WAN affords.

With SD-WAN's increased functionality, reliable backup circuits, and a set-up time of less than a week, Wunderlich's IT team now doesn't have to worry about downtime or dropped calls interfering with their ability to solve customer issues. The new SD-WAN network helps Wunderlich move at the speed of today's market while ensuring accelerated responsiveness for years to come.

MetTel will integrate different local exchange carriers (LECs) in its network and manage the singular customer relationship. MetTel's strong relations with all Tier 1 carriers will provide Wunderlich with the best circuits and features of each carrier to deliver one seamless coverage experience for Wunderlich's busy brokers.

DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...
The Internet of Things will challenge the status quo of how IT and development organizations operate. Or will it? The next XaaS is CICDaaS. Why? Because CICD saves developers a huge amount of time. CD is an especially great option for projects that require multiple and frequent contributions to be integrated. But… securing CICD best practices is an emerging, essential, yet little understood practice for DevOps teams and their Cloud Service Providers. The only way to get CICD to work in a highly secure environment takes collaboration, patience and persistence. Building CICD in the cloud requires rigorous ar...
Companies are harnessing data in ways we once associated with science fiction. Analysts have access to a plethora of visualization and reporting tools, but considering the vast amount of data businesses collect and limitations of CPUs, end users are forced to design their structures and systems with limitations. Until now. As the cloud toolkit to analyze data has evolved, GPUs have stepped in to massively parallel SQL, visualization and machine learning.

To get the most out of their data, successful companies are not focusing on queries and data lakes, they are actively integrating analytics into their operations with a data-first application development approach. Large industrial manufacturing organizations are adopting the agile principles of cloud software companies. The industrial manufacturing development process has not scaled over time. Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder. Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. Thi...
