Eonite Releases World's Most Accurate, Lowest Latency, Lowest Power Consuming Software to Democratize Inside-Out Positional Tracking for VR and AR

Created by a Stanford PhD and Backed by Silicon Valley VCs, Eonite Vantage Head Tracker Enables 6DOF Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Experiences on Multiple Platforms

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Eonite, a computer vision company delivering inside-out positional tracking for the real world, today announced the official availability of its Eonite Vantage Head Tracker™ software. Eonite delivers the first multi-platform software with sub-millimeter accuracy and extremely low latency, while running on a tablet-class GPU (graphics processing unit). Eonite democratizes virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) by delivering inside-out positional tracking for any tethered and untethered headsets, mobile devices, robots, drones and other form factors.

"With Eonite inside, virtual reality can become more affordable, easier to setup, and more immersive for users. Our 6DOF (degrees of freedom) software is leading the industry in all five key commercialization areas - accuracy, latency, robustness, power efficiency and price," said Youssri Helmy, CEO and founder of Eonite. "Eonite Vantage Head Tracker is a fundamental requirement in the tech stack, and will be an industry-defining solution for VR/AR headsets to accurately operate in the real world."

Founded in December 2015, Eonite builds on years of work in the field of artificial perception in robotic and consumer applications by founders Dr. Anna Petrovskaya and Peter Varvak.

"When I began working on computer perception in 2004 with Peter, we recognized it would impact a wide range of artificial intelligence industries and enable tremendous growth in consumer experiences," said Anna. "Eonite enables the fourth wave of computing - spatial interfaces like VR/AR/MR - to gain widespread adoption. Computers perceiving the real world like the human eye - that's what it takes for these experiences to feel 'real' enough for common usage, and that's the impact we're enabling at Eonite."

Eonite Vantage Head Tracker software delivers 6DOF with sub-millimeter accuracy, extremely low latency (motion-to-photon in less than 15 milliseconds) and low power consumption.

Other features and benefits include:

  • Real-time obstacle detection (both static and dynamic) to increase safety and enhance the immersive experience
  • Uses one commodity depth sensor and standard processors built into the headset, which cuts down on hardware costs and simplifies the system setup
  • Supports mapping and tracking through multiple rooms - localization in entire furnished homes vs. clearing a space
  • Works in a variety of indoor lighting conditions to support real-world use cases
  • Sensor fusion including depth and IMU (inertial measurement unit)
  • Support for PC-based head-mounted displays (HMD), with support for mobile and other devices coming soon

The Eonite Vantage Head Tracker comes in addition to the Eonite Reality Insight™ Software Development Kit (SDK) and Unity plugin, which the company currently offers to select strategic partners. The SDK includes home-scale, real-time 3D scanning and reconstruction supporting persistent virtual content, occlusions and shadows. Eonite Reality Insight enables developers to create life-like mixed reality applications, and to use 3D simultaneous localization and mapping (3D SLAM) and high precision navigation for a variety of markets such as automotive, robotics and manufacturing.

DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...
The Internet of Things will challenge the status quo of how IT and development organizations operate. Or will it? Certainly the fog layer of IoT requires special insights about data ontology, security and transactional integrity. But the developmental challenges are the same: People, Process and Platform. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Craig Sproule, CEO of Metavine, demonstrated how to move beyond today's coding paradigm and shared the must-have mindsets for removing complexity from the develop...

The next XaaS is CICDaaS. Why? Because CICD saves developers a huge amount of time. CD is an especially great option for projects that require multiple and frequent contributions to be integrated. But… securing CICD best practices is an emerging, essential, yet little understood practice for DevOps teams and their Cloud Service Providers. The only way to get CICD to work in a highly secure environment takes collaboration, patience and persistence. Building CICD in the cloud requires rigorous ar...
Companies are harnessing data in ways we once associated with science fiction. Analysts have access to a plethora of visualization and reporting tools, but considering the vast amount of data businesses collect and limitations of CPUs, end users are forced to design their structures and systems with limitations. Until now. As the cloud toolkit to analyze data has evolved, GPUs have stepped in to massively parallel SQL, visualization and machine learning.

Large industrial manufacturing organizations are adopting the agile principles of cloud software companies. The industrial manufacturing development process has not scaled over time. Enterprises are adopting Kubernetes to accelerate the development and the delivery of cloud-native applications. However, sharing a Kubernetes cluster between members of the same team can be challenging. And, sharing clusters across multiple teams is even harder. Kubernetes offers several constructs to help implement segmentation and isolation. However, these primitives can be complex to understand and apply. As a result, it’s becoming common for enterprises to end up with several clusters. Thi...
