The goal of this competition was to help nonprofits achieve their mission through the power of design and technology. Designers and web experts from PRISM volunteered to a straight 24 hours challenge, giving the Phoenix-based nonprofit access to world class expertise in UX, Visual Design, Content Strategy, and Web Development and create a significantly better user experience on the MDT Project website. PRISM was a big winner at the event and took home People's Choice, Best Design, and Biggest Impact awards.

"Although we are very proud of these awards, the greatest of them was working with MDT Project and helping them getting one step closer to completing their mission," said Rodrigo Rodriguez, lead for the PRISM team.

This event was organized by the Nerdery Foundation, part of 'The Nerdery'. The Nerdery Foundation works to bridge this gap, bringing together highly-skilled technologists with the community-based organizations who most need their help. The Overnight Website Challenge is a volunteer-driven program, aimed at maximizing the community impact of nonprofit organizations through digital strategy and custom software design and development. Development and design teams volunteer 24 hours of UX, Design, content, and development expertise to improve the organization's use of technology by redesigning their website.

PRISM team transformed Million Dollar Teacher Project (MDTP) website into a site that truly reflected its name. "Our approach started with improving the website's overall usability by reworking the site's information architecture, redesigning the content, and establishing consistent branding. To ease the management of the site, we also integrated WordPress as the CMS and Google Analytics. PRISM also implemented additional features to help MDTP with donations, events, and news," Rigo said.

"New ways to donate, get involved, and understand the organization jumped from thoughts to whiteboards to computer screens in mere hours," said Lloyd Hopkins, Executive Director/Founder of MDTP , who oversaw the creation of site maps and plans. Lloyd said, "I appreciate the collaboration and how we brought our respective talents to the table to solve these big issues, issues facing teachers." Every motion made by the project is a step towards improving education, but The Overnight Website Challenge and PRISM helped MDTP make bounds with the new website.

Cognitive Computing is becoming the foundation for a new generation of solutions that have the potential to transform business. As software becomes more and more complex, we, as software developers, have been splitting up our code into smaller and smaller components. This is also true for the environment in which we run our code: going from bare metal, to VMs to the modern-day Cloud Native world of containers, schedulers and micro services. While we have figured out how to run containerized applications in the cloud using schedulers, we've yet to come up with a good solution to bridge the gap between getting your contain...

For basic one-to-one voice or video calling solutions, WebRTC has proven to be a very powerful technology. Although WebRTC’s core functionality is to provide secure, real-time p2p media streaming, leveraging native platform features and server-side components brings up new communication capabilities for web and native mobile applications, allowing for advanced multi-user use cases such as video broadcasting, conferencing, and media recording.
WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of “data” has been limited to text chat and file download – all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, looked at differ...
