Lancement réussi pour SES-15, premier satellite géostationnaire de SES à bord de Soyouz

SES S.A. (Euronext Paris:SESG) (LuxX:SESG) a annoncé aujourd'hui que le satellite SES-15 a été lancé avec succès à bord d’une fusée Soyouz depuis le Centre Spatial Guyanais de Kourou, en Guyane française, à 08:54 heure locale. Il s’agit du premier satellite de SES à être lancé par une fusée Soyouz pour une mission vers l’orbite de transfert géostationnaire.

SES-15 transporte une charge utile hybride, comprenant des faisceaux larges dans la bande Ku et une capacité de type HTS (High Throughput Satellite) dans la bande Ku, avec une connectivité à des portails dans la bande Ka. Le premier satellite hybride de SES sera situé sur la position orbitale de 129 degrés ouest et est équipé de 16 répéteurs en bande Ku (équivalent à 36 MHz) ainsi que de capacités haut débit (HTS) pour servir l’Amérique du Nord, le Mexique, l’Amérique centrale et les Caraïbes.

La charge utile haut débit de SES-15 offrira une couverture optimisée et flexible aux principaux fournisseurs mondiaux de services de connectivité et de divertissement en vol, tels que Global Eagle Entertainment, Gogo and Panasonic Avionics. De plus, SES-15 possède un faisceau large dédié, conçu pour permettre aux fournisseurs de services d’offrir la diffusion en direct de contenu télévisé sur tous les itinéraires de vol au-dessus des États-Unis (dont Hawaï et l’Alaska), le Canada, les Caraïbes et le Mexique. Cette combinaison unique de faisceaux permet aux fournisseurs de services d’utiliser de manière optimale la capacité HTS pour le trafic Internet et la couverture à faisceau large pour la diffusion de contenu. Le satellite permettra aussi de desservir les réseaux VSAT ainsi que d'autres applications de données à fort trafic dans le secteur des administrations publiques et le secteur maritime.

SES-15 transportera également une charge utile hébergée du système WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System), qui permettra à l’Administration fédérale de l'aviation (FAA) des États-Unis d’augmenter les capacités du système de positionnement global (GPS) avec l’objectif d’améliorer la précision, l’intégrité et la disponibilité du système pour le secteur aéronautique.

Le satellite est équipé d’un système de propulsion électrique pour la mise en orbite et les manœuvres orbitales.
