FreeWave Technologies Marks Strong Growth in Industrial IoT with Increased Revenues, New International Customers

Company leverages more than 20 years of wireless communications excellence to lead IIoT markets into next-generation application

FreeWave Technologies, Inc. has announced marked quarter-over-quarter revenue growth for 2017 in line with its newest IIoT communication solutions, partnerships, and ongoing legacy product reliability in government and defense, oil and gas, unmanned systems and more. The first quarter of 2017 was the company's best quarter by revenue in nearly three years, showing 60 percent growth over the same quarter last year. Q1 also showed 17 percent growth from fourth quarter in 2016.

"FreeWave has long been the leader in telemetry and SCADA data radios in government and defense and within oil and gas industries. But with our introduction of next-generation programmable ZumLink radio and its ZumBoost technology we have leapfrogged the competition by offering the algorithms that dramatically increase data throughputs and reliability," said Kirk Byles, vice president of sales at FreeWave. "This growth in technological capabilities allows customers to now deploy applications at the Edge, creating longer term value in every product that is deployed. We are continuing to serve our customers and build our future by bringing ZumBoost technology to every Industrial IoT market in the world."

The company marks its revenue and customer growth on the continued success of its traditional products (that perform in even the harshest of conditions on planet earth), and its next-generation technology that represents an entirely new class of wireless IIoT Sensor-2-Server (S2S) communications. The new flexible radio designs support link rates of up to 4Mbps plus increased bandwidth, lower power consumption and endless possibilities for collecting, protecting, transporting and controlling data from network end points all the way back to the server. Additional highlights include:

  • An increasing number of WavePro (http://www.freewave.com/products/wavepro-wp201-100/) deployments in China and the Far East.
  • Introducing new solutions to more than 40 new customers across the globe in 2017 and on pace to add a few hundred more throughout the year. FreeWave's new channel and two-tier distribution models are now reaching into all industrial markets everywhere around the globe.
  • Nearly 15 percent of revenue was from technology solutions the company introduced in Q1 2017, which included additions to the ZumLink family, WavePro family, WaveContact family and 13X5W. These solutions are part of more than a dozen new deployments across the globe, every customer of which will deploy more of FreeWave's solutions throughout 2017.
  • FreeWave's sales team is realizing a strong uptick of customer engagements in Q2 2017, with more than three dozen proof of concepts and 10 new customers deploying product around the globe.

New IIoT Technology Solutions from FreeWave

FreeWave's introduction of the ZumLink product family marked the next chapter of rugged and reliable technology solutions from the company (http://www.freewave.com/products/zumlink-900-series). The Z9-C and Z9-T Serial radio communication modules, showcased at XPONENTIAL 2017 in Dallas this week, are ideally suited for OEM and embedded wireless applications, particularly for unmanned systems, robotics and heavy machinery that require the utmost in secure and uninterrupted high-speed data communications.

Building on the momentum from its new product family, FreeWave recently announced its ZumLink IPR Programmability and Pilot Program (http://www.freewave.com/zumlink-ipr-pilot-program/). Participating app developers receive a complimentary hardware/software Dev Kit and gain support from FreeWave's software engineering team. The program focuses on the ZumLink IPR App Server Radio (http://www.freewave.com/products/zumlink-ipr-iiot-programmable-radio/), which combines industry leading 900MHz wireless telemetry with the ability to program and host third party software applications for intelligent control and automation of remote sensors and devices.

Joining Texas Instruments Design Network

Along with delivering new technology solutions to market, FreeWave has teamed up with Texas Instruments as part of its TI Design Network (http://bit.ly/TIDesignNetwork). The TI Design Network is a worldwide community of respected, well-established companies offering products and services that complement TI's semiconductor device solutions. Products and services include a broad range of reference designs, turnkey products and services, system modules, embedded software, engineering services, and development tools that help customers accelerate development efforts and reduce time-to-market.
