About Advisor Pro Mobile

Advisor Pro Mobile offers mobile solutions to Registered Independent Advisors (RIA) in the United States. Advisor Pro Mobile's value to advisors is simple: More growth, more time, more ideal clients, as a result of offering continuous value to clients.

The data shows that mobile adoption is not just about Millennials, but everyone with a smartphone, including Boomers. Ultra high net worth clients use mobile to check account balances, personal information and research investments. Why? They’re busy and the world is now telling them that everything should be convenient and “on demand.” People no longer plan around services, they expect services to be planned around them. They want to be able to connect with their entire financial lives, on demand!

Uber is disrupting taxis not because they are necessarily cheaper, but because the customer doesn’t have to wait for a taxi anymore, Uber is on demand. When is the last time you went to the record store to buy music? iTunes and other streaming services made it so that you can download your favorite album and be listening to it in seconds, iTunes is on demand. During the late 90’s, Comcast and other cable providers were facing almost imminent disruption due to Tivo and Netflix on demand technology, but cable providers quickly evolved to remain competitive. If a client can pull out their phone and feel connected, informed and reassured through their financial journey... "on demand"... they will never leave you!

The Opportunity

The financial services mobile space is enjoying an explosive growth and brings an enormous future potential to first/early starters. There are over a million financial advisors in Western Europe and the United States. More than 95% of financial advisors are using a mobile device for work (smart phone and/or tablet). However under 5% of financial advisors, planners, and wealth managers are using a mobile app, specifically designed to meet their client demands. Within five years the majority of registered independent advisors will have access to a professional advisor app, making this solution segment a multi-billion-dollar market for providers and a must-have tool for advisors.

The Challenge

The top priority of financial advisors is maintaining and improving the their client relationships. Mobile technology offers unique capabilities, but adoption and integration challenges remain. In particular, the lack of mobile provision tools available to advisors, planners and wealth managers, and in general the lack of communication tools.

The Advisor Pro Mobile team knew the path to success was going to require specialized domain expertise, and a track record of building multi-platform mobile solutions for secure and scalable, cloud-based, CRM-integrated solutions. The main challenge was time to market and startup costs.

Why Movel

The rise of mobile websites, using universal browser-compatible technologies such as HTML5 means that developers can rely less on downloadable apps developed for the device’s native code.

Movel has experience in both mobile-first development as well as native app development. Usability and uncompromising performance was a key selling factor for APM, therefore the Movel designers and architects chose Apple Native Mobile App technology for the main app and cross-platform HTML5 technology for the referral piece and the advisor backend interface.

By combining the two technologies we achieved the desired control and robust functionality that apps offer, while reducing development costs for the backed interface. The system was designed to support iPhone, iPad, and added future support across multiple mobile operating systems: Android, BlackBerry OS, WebOS, and Windows Phone.

Mobile Security and Usability

For APM, the Movel Security Team applied the highest level of data and privacy protection via encryption. Encryption scrambles messages exchanged between the mobile device and our back end servers to ensure no data is compromised.

For the data protection, the APM mobile technology and servers exchange data at 256-bit encryption (versus the less-secure 40-bit, or 128-bit encryption). This level of encryption is equal to or better than the level of encryption used by most major financial institutions for their online and mobile banking services.

While keeping data safe and secure was Movel's primary objective, we also combined it with high quality user experience. We balanced these two objectives by employing several modern security features such as multiform authentication, private PINs and phone verification. This was done in a minimally obstructive way in order for users to enjoy the benefits of the technology, with the peace of mind that their financial data is safe and secure.

The Benefits

Movel offered a startup-friendly development model and met the Advisor Pro Mobile requirements in several key areas:

  • Rapid development
  • Speedy feedback cycles
  • cloud-based solution
  • Industry-standard security features
  • Quick time to market
  • Flexible contractual engagement
  • Onsite meetings with experts
  • Full app mock ups and working prototypes
  • Cutting edge tools such as Swift for prolonged technology investment
