Top App Creators Join Forces with Vewd, Further Expanding World’s Largest TV App Ecosystem

Vewd (formerly Opera TV), the global market leader in enabling OTT, today announced that ten of the world’s top TV app vendors will unite in support of the Vewd ecosystem in a bid to unify the fragmented TV app market around an independent and open platform. The ten app vendors are: Accedo, Cisco, Easel TV, Floatleft Interactive, Fractal Media, Massive, Tradecast, TV App Agency, Wizitivi, and 24i.

These ten vendors used Vewd Certify to complete the certification process, thereby ensuring their applications work out of the box with all Vewd Enabled devices. This alignment reduces the fragmentation and complexity that has plagued the TV app market for years. Vewd has the most deployed HTML5 platform for smart TVs and set-top boxes, shipping on nearly 50 million devices each year. With almost 1500 apps enabled today, the addition of these leading vendors will further strengthen the volume and quality of the Vewd app ecosystem.

“The TV app vendors are a critical part of content distribution. Working with these leading companies to unify their development efforts around the Vewd ecosystem allows for significantly lower OPEX and quicker time-to-market for their partners,” says Daniel Nordberg, SVP of Partnerships, Vewd. “At Vewd, we work hard to simplify complexity and reduce fragmentation, ensuring that our partners can focus on what they do best – make compelling experiences for connected TV devices.”

What they say

“Having our award-winning professional services group work with Vewd gives us instant access to a very wide ecosystem with consistency in how our customers’ video services perform across devices,” says Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo. “We’re especially excited to have our Accedo One application platform certified for Vewd, which will allow effortless and immediate scalability for our customers.”

“We’re excited to support the Vewd ecosystem in our TV App Engine,” says Bruno Pereira, Managing Partner, TV App Agency. “Now it’s even easier to solve the central bottleneck in OTT application deployment – device and platform fragmentation – with just a few clicks. Brands working with us can trust that their applications will be immediately ready for deployment to a TV ecosystem that spans 50 million devices each year.”

“Vewd and Easel TV have all the hallmarks of a perfect partnership,” says Joe Foster, CEO, Easel TV. “Our Suggested TV platform has everything our partners need to deploy a premium OTT service. Now, working with Vewd, we can rapidly scale those services across the world’s largest OTT ecosystem.”
