AT&T Contribution to Fuel Team Rubicon's Growth Across North Carolina

$100K Contribution Supports Volunteer Recruitment, Training, and Capacity to Serve Communities Impacted by Disasters

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T is continuing its long-standing support for military veterans and local communities by contributing $100,000 to Team Rubicon in North Carolina.

The contribution will enable Team Rubicon to engage and mobilize more North Carolina veterans, as well as other trained volunteers, to help communities recover and rebuild following disasters.

"A higher calling of civic duty is what brought our active duty military into service, and our veterans carry that culture with them into all walks of their lives," said Secretary Larry D. Hall of the NC Department of Military & Veterans Affairs. "AT&T and Team Rubicon could not have found a better equipped, dedicated and driven partner to change lives in crisis than North Carolina's veterans. Our state has a long a proud tradition of supporting our 800,000 veterans because we have seen firsthand the leadership they bring to our communities and the examples they set for all our citizens.  I am thrilled to welcome Team Rubicon to North Carolina, and excited for the impact this organization will have on those in need throughout the state."

A non-profit disaster response organization, Team Rubicon rapidly deploys trained disaster response teams, free of charge, to assist communities struck by natural disasters. The teams are primarily made up of military veterans, but also include first responders and other skilled volunteers.

Team Rubicon currently maintains a roster of nearly 70,000 volunteers located throughout the United States. Currently, there are nearly 1,600 in North Carolina and a goal to reach 9,500 in the greater Raleigh area.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to help Team Rubicon expand its capacity in this region," said Venessa Harrison, president of AT&T North Carolina. "Our company has a long heritage of not only supporting communities, but also veterans. Working with Team Rubicon enables us to bring those areas together in a unique and powerful way."

AT&T's contribution is part of a national $1 million commitment to Team Rubicon that included funding for immediate disaster relief in the wake of the most recent disasters, as well as funding for recruitment, training and support of new volunteers around the country.

While Team Rubicon's primary mission is providing relief to those affected by disasters, the organization also seeks to provide our veterans with three things they lose after leaving the military: a purpose, gained through disaster response; community, built by serving with others; and identity, created by joining a new mission.

"Volunteers with Team Rubicon are built to serve, and with AT&T's commitment to fueling our growth in North Carolina, we're training and empowering local veterans and responders to build stronger communities through service," said Joe Messere, Deputy Director of Team Rubicon's southeast territory.
