Allina Health Chooses Thycotic Secret Server Privileged Account Password Management to Improve Cybersecurity Across its IT Infrastructure

Major healthcare provider in Minnesota relies on Thycotic Secret Server to safeguard passwords, automate control, and demonstrate compliance

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Thycotic, a provider of privileged account management (PAM) solutions for more than 7,500 organizations worldwide, announced that Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care system based in Minneapolis, has selected Thycotic Secret Server to manage and protect privileged passwords across its system IT infrastructure.

"We had too many IT admins sharing administrator passwords in Excel spreadsheets or on sticky notes under their keyboards," explained Thomas Peeples, Senior Security Engineer at Allina Health.  "Secret Server eliminates these risky habits by automating our privileged account password security and making our team work processes much more productive."

Thycotic Secret Server software enables enterprises to discover, store, secure and manage privileged account passwords while streamlining the management process.  Secret Server is being implemented by Allina Health to centralize, control, and protect privileged account passwords and safeguard access to their systems from cyberattacks and malicious insiders.

"Secret Server can be installed and working in only a day or two," Peeples explained, "giving us an ideal solution to rotate account access on a daily basis, and gaining visibility into who is utilizing these accounts and auditing when they use them."

He noted one significant benefit from Secret Server was the ability to discover, consolidate and get better control of domain admin accounts, enabling him to reduce their number by 80 percent.  In another situation, Secret Server's ability to automatically change passwords remotely has been a key advantage in demonstrating compliance with PCI requirements.

Peeples said Allina Health will continue to extend the use of Secret Server beyond its IT infrastructure to include business users as well.  "I'm also interested in Thycotic's Privilege Manager product in helping us achieve a 'least privilege" strategy for applications at the endpoint," he said.  "We want to control elevated privileges tied to processes not individual users, so we can reduce the exposure of privileged accounts and still give users the ability to complete their daily tasks.

"We are pleased that in a highly competitive market, Allina Health has chosen Thycotic Secret Server to secure and streamline its privileged access management," said James Legg, Thycotic's President and CEO.  "It's critical that healthcare providers today be able to improve their cybersecurity, enhance productivity of their users and demonstrate compliance with easy, effective and affordable privileged account management solutions."
