LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 09/27/07 -- The world's most-photographed twin sister models, The Barbi Twins, will lead a rally against animal experimentation at UCLA this Friday. The Barbi Twins will be available to media at the rally for photos and interviews.
What: Barbi Twins Rally Against UCLA Vivisection.
When: Friday, September 28th, 1 - 3 pm
Where: UCLA - Corner of Le Conte and Westwood Blvd.
Why: Cover models for two record-breaking editions of Playboy, The Barbi Twins are shining their spotlight on UCLA in part because of UCLA's primate experiments. "Primate experimentation in the U.S. is out of control," said Last Chance for Animals (LCA) President Chris DeRose. "At least 56,000 primates are imprisoned in U.S. laboratories. Sanctuaries around the country are ready to receive these poor victims, to allow them to live out their remaining years in dignity. UCLA must get with the times, close their primate research facilities, and work with us to retire these animals to proper homes."
Shane Barbi notes: "An animal who has a brain and a spine has the ability to feel pain, and to suffer from that pain. At that point, I believe our 'right' to experiment upon them ends, and their rights begin." Sia Barbi adds: "Animal experimentation is a bad message for kids. As long as we cannot respect those beyond our race, religion, or species, we will always have prejudice and war."
LCA has exposed cruel experiments at UCLA for over 20 years. Many primates at UCLA are used in brain-mapping experiments. Recording cylinders are attached to their skulls, eye coils implanted, electrodes forced into the brain. Primates at UCLA are often confined to restraint chairs and have been deprived of water for extended periods of time, as much as 22 hours per day. UCLA records have also shown that some of the primates have become self-destructive, repeatedly injuring themselves. This indicates that their psychological needs are not being met, as required by law.
Last Chance for Animals (LCA) is a national animal rights organization based in Los Angeles. Founded and led by animal expert, author, and actor Chris DeRose, LCA fights for the rights of animals by conducting investigations that expose animal cruelty.
