HARRISBURG, Pa., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GovNetPA, Inc., a legislative tracking service based in Harrisburg, has announced the acquisition of the subscription-based Capitolwire service in Pennsylvania from The Associated Press, effective at the close of business on April 8, and the appointment of new leadership.
Craig Leach, president of GovNetPA and the new owner of Harrisburg-based Capitolwire -- which provides state capital news and legislative tracking information to trade associations, lobbyists and other professionals -- announced that Pete DeCoursey, the longtime political reporter and columnist for the Harrisburg Patriot-News, will join Capitolwire's staff on April 18.
Leach also named Albert J. Neri, an award-winning former state capital journalist, to be the managing director of Capitolwire, effective April 8 when the acquisition is completed. Neri is the editor and publisher of The Insider, the state's largest newsletter covering statewide politics. He formerly reported from the state capital for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Erie Times-News. Since 2003, Neri has also been a consultant and weekly columnist for GovNetPA.
"Al Neri is well known in state government, political and media circles and he will help our subscribers easily bridge any transition from the existing service to which they've become accustomed onto the new features and attractions coming to our customers in the months ahead," Leach said.
"We're very excited about Pete DeCoursey coming to our staff and his reporting and writing being offered exclusively on our statewide service," Leach said. "Politicspa.com recently described Pete as the 'dean of the Pennsylvania news establishment' and we couldn't agree more. He will add a new and wonderful dimension to Capitolwire's original news content."
Since 2000, Capitolwire.com has been the dominant Internet-based legislative and news service in Pennsylvania, with Capitolwire users numbering in the thousands.
Capitolwire offers original reporting on the Legislature, state government and state politics as well as the best-organized compilation of newspaper articles from around the state and the nation. It also features news releases and other pertinent reports from government and other organizations designed to help those who are active in public affairs, both in and around state government.
GovNetPA is a Harrisburg-based company that is best known for its excellent and easy-to-use legislative tracking service, which has been available by monthly subscription in Pennsylvania since 2002.
Capitolwire users will see no immediate changes and will continue to receive the service under the terms and conditions of existing contracts. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Leach said he was excited by the synergy created from the two companies combining under one roof.
"This represents the merger of the best news and information service and the best legislative tracking service in the marketplace today," Leach said. "Capitolwire customers should be greatly pleased with what they will encounter in the months ahead while experiencing no immediate changes in their service right now."
Leach noted that prior to the merger many state associations, lobbying firms and government agencies found that subscribing to both services provided them with the best combination of news and information while enabling them to better track legislation of special interest to themselves, their agencies and their clients.
"The marketplace was already determining what is now taking place under the merger of the two services," he said.
Government News Network, GovNetPA's parent company, also operates a New Jersey legislative tracking service and has licensed its unique software for use in other states across the nation.GovNetPA, Inc.

CIOs and those charged with running IT Operations are challenged to deliver secure, audited, and reliable compute environments for the applications and data for the business. Behind the scenes these tasks are often accomplished by following onerous time-consuming processes and often the management of these environments and processes will be outsourced to multiple IT service providers. In addition, the division of work is often siloed into traditional "towers" that are not well integrated for cro...

It's easy to assume that your app will run on a fast and reliable network. The reality for your app's users, though, is often a slow, unreliable network with spotty coverage. What happens when the network doesn't work, or when the device is in airplane mode? You get unhappy, frustrated users. An offline-first app is an app that works, without error, when there is no network connection.

Cognitive Computing is becoming the foundation for a new generation of solutions that have the potential to transform business. This contrasts with conventional software development that begins with defining logic based on the current way a business operates. In her session at 18th Cloud Expo, Judith S. As enterprises work to take advantage of Big Data technologies, they frequently become distracted by product-level decisions. In most new Big Data builds this approach is completely counter-productive: it presupposes tools that may not be a fit for development teams, forces IT to take on the burden of evaluating and maintaining unfamiliar technology, and represents a major up-front expense. In his session at @BigDataExpo at @ThingsExpo, Andrew Warfield, CTO and Co-Founder of Coho Data, will dis...

In most cases, it is convenient to have some human interaction with a web (micro-)service, no matter how small it is. A traditional approach would be to create an HTTP interface, where user requests will be dispatched and HTML/CSS pages must be served. This approach is indeed very traditional for a web site, but not really convenient for a web service, which is not intended to be good looking, 24x7 up and running and UX-optimized. Instead, talking to a web service in a chat-bot mode would be muc...
